    This laboratory was set up from the beginning of the formation of the faculty with the aim of creating a laboratory 
    unit equipped for research and development in the field of freezing and casting in the country. During the past years,
    several activities have been carried out to expand research in this regard. These include research in the field of 
    directional solidification, production of single crystals and software development for casting process simulation.
    This laboratory unit is one of the most equipped specialized casting and freezing units in the country, which operates
    in accordance with research and industrial needs by employing experienced manpower and appropriate equipment. Complete
    equipment for examining and testing the various properties and properties of casting sands,such as measuring strength,
    gas permeability and determining the true specific surface area, is available in this unit. Among the most important 
    casting equipment, the following can be mentioned:
    - Electric arc furnace
    - Couple furnace
    - Vacuum casting furnace and protective atmosphere
    - Single crystal growth machine
    - Precision casting machine
    The Faculty of Engineering and Materials Science currently has 28 full-time faculty members who are engaged in teaching
    and research in the mentioned fields. All matters related to casting simulation are performed by the computer in this
    laboratory with the help of SUTCAST simulation software.

    Advanced materials and nanometer laboratory
    In order to research in the field of powder and nanometer materials technology, a laboratory has been equipped and operated in this faculty, which is currently
    operating in the following four research fields:
    1- Production of nanostructured materials and nanometer metal powders
    2- Production of nanostructured materials and nanometer ceramic powders
    3 -Manufacture and processing of metal nanocomposites
    4 - Fabrication and processing of ceramic nanocomposites
    Advanced powder forming methods such as rapid prototyping and fabrication methods, powder injection molding (PIM), hot powder pressing and powder extrusion 
    processing and production of porous materials, filters and metal foams for the production of metal and ceramic powders and composites In this laboratory, high 
    energy mechanical mills including planetary ball mills, SPEX and ATRITOR were purchased and a gas phase condenser (IGC) was built. In addition to the above, in 
    order to implement new methods of forming metal and ceramic powders and producing special structures such as porous structures and metal foams, various devices 
    and equipment such as prototyping machine with molten polymer coating (FDM), sample machine With paper layers (LOM),gas atomization system for powder production,
    types of mixers, hot press 120 tons,

    Welding laboratory
    This laboratory is equipped with all advanced machines and equipment related to various welding processes.
    The most important equipment of welding laboratory are submerged arc welding equipment, oxyacetylene welding, spot resistance welding (RSW), MAG / MIG welding and 
    TIG welding and welding (fsw) and head welding.
    So far, dozens of research-industrial projects have been carried out in this unit, some of which have continued as semi-industrial and industrial. Among the studies 
    that are done using the facilities of this laboratory in relation to industrial or research projects are:
    - Investigation of tensile properties, impact resistance and flexibility of welding in accordance with standards
    - Electrode testing and related tests according to the standard
    - Preparation of welding instructions and its approval and welding certificate

    properties tests for tensile, compressive, fatigue, bending, creeping, impact and hardness tests. The most important

    cathodic protection systems and potentiostat systems in different models.

    In the ceramic laboratory, there are various facilities for preparing materials (powder mill, powder granulation, etc.)
    as well as the process of heat treatment and sintering of ceramics up to 1800 degrees Celsius (with the ability to plan the heating process up to 9 stages). 
    The ceramic laboratory has various equipments, the most important of which are as follows:

    and also according to the available facilities, all hot and cold deformation tests by processes from Such as rolling,

    cone crushers, ball and rod mills, laboratory sieves, dry and wet magnetic separators, flotation cells and centrifuge classifiers are available in this unit which is 
    used for research. Examination and identification of minerals using X-ray, mineralogy of minerals using polarizing microscope and reflecting microscope are other 
    activities of this laboratory in relation to mineralization and concentration.
    In relation to metal processing and production, due to the fact that this unit is equipped with a variety of laboratory furnaces such as resistance, induction,vacuum
    and horizontal and vertical furnaces up to 1800 ° C with the possibility of controlling the reduction and oxidation atmosphere, melting operations And purification of
    various metals and materials is easily possible. Recently, with the design and construction of laboratory fluidized bed furnaces, the capabilities of pyrometallurgy 
    in this unit have been expanded.
    The hydrometallurgy department of this laboratory is equipped with facilities and equipments including leaching systems, reactors, solvent extraction and extraction,

  • Nanomaterials Laboratory

    Nanomaterials Laboratory was officially established in 2011 at the Faculty of Engineering and Materials Science - Sharif University of Technology with two main objectives of synthesis and characterization of advanced nanomaterials. It should be noted that the first activity of this laboratory in Pardis Technology Park began in 2007. The main research in this laboratory is the use of synthesized nanomaterials for use in solar cells.
    In this laboratory, it is possible to synthesize and produce most nanostructures (zero, one and two dimensional) with different morphologies with different chemical methods (chemical) such as sol-gel, celothermal, hydrothermal, chemical precipitation, chemical bath deposition, electrochemical deposition, sedimentation and precipitation Etc. provided. There is also equipment for preparing nanocoatings, thin layers and thick layers using immersion and rotating coating devices. Extensive research has been conducted in the field of titanium dioxide (TiO2) synthesis with different morphologies such as nanoparticles, nanowires, cob-like nanowires, nanotubes, coil-like nanotubes, dandelion-like particles, hierarchical particles, hollow spheres and TiO2-CNT hybrids. Research has also been done on the synthesis of graphene and its derivatives.
    In this laboratory, it is possible to characterize the optical and electrical properties of nanomaterials using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy equipment, sunlight simulator and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

    Advanced Materials Synthesis and Chemistry Laboratory is active in the field of advanced materials synthesis and analysis. The purpose of establishing this 
    laboratory is to create the necessary facilities for the synthesis and chemical identification of advanced materials such as nanomaterials, biomaterials, 
    optical, electrical and magnetic materials in research applications and their characterization to achieve the desired properties. The synthesis of advanced 
    materials is done by using return heat systems, ultrasonic baths, ultrasonic probes, UV radiation and other physicochemical methods.
    
    In this laboratory, chemical analysis of non-ferrous alloys such as aluminum, copper, lead and zinc alloys and mineral solutions is performed using atomic 
    absorption devices and visible ultraviolet spectrometer.Chemical electrolysis equipment and furnaces complete the equipment of this laboratory. Also, turbidity 
    meter is used to measure the turbidity of solutions and rheometer is used to measure the viscosity, and the pH of the solutions is measured using a pH meter.
    
    Providing laboratory services to industry and other research units has been considered in this laboratory for a long time and now there is a good interaction 
    between the laboratory of synthesis and chemistry of advanced materials of the Faculty of Engineering and Materials Science with these units.
