Dr. Kaboli's Project at Sharif University of Technology Titled "High-Pressure Dual Energy Power Supply for X-ray Container Imaging System"

The X-ray Container Imaging System was introduced as the top industrial project in the year 2023.

According to the public relations office of the Sharif University of Technology, the Community and Industry Relations Office of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology introduced 155 top industrial projects of universities and research institutes in the year 2023.

Among these projects, Dr. Shahriar Kaboli's project, a faculty member of the Electrical Engineering Department of Sharif University, and his team were selected as the university-research institute's top project for the year 2023, titled "High-Pressure Dual Energy Power Supply for X-ray Container Imaging System."

This project involves the design and construction of a high-pressure dual energy power supply for the X-ray container imaging system. This system enables color imaging inside containers using dual-energy methods. Given the significance of the issue of smuggling and the country's urgent need for customs terminals, there is a high demand for this product. The heart of the imaging system is its X-ray generator, and the power supply unit is its most sensitive part, where any inaccuracy can result in low-quality images. Additionally, this part is subjected to intense electrical stress due to high pressure, and any error in it can damage the entire system. The use of pulse generator technology with series-connected semiconductor switches of the IGBT type instead of gas switches has led to very high-quality waveforms of the power supply and consequently the output image of the system. This power supply has a very fast and safe protection system that prevents damage to the X-ray generator in error conditions. A new protection algorithm based on combining data from multiple sensors has been used in this section.

It is worth mentioning that the Community and Industry Relations Office identifies and compiles selected contracts of universities and research institutes every year. In the year 2023, with the participation of the country's universities and research institutes, 155 projects were introduced as top projects.
